Our Story.

In August 2013 we started as a simple food stall doing the rounds at music festivals and markets with our original creation the Signature Acho’s Bun - we wanted to introduce a different kind of Japanese food to New Zealanders - something that was fun and easy to eat anywhere.

As we gained popularity, we saw an opportunity a start something similar to what we remember in Japan - a koryori, or shop that sells small cooked dishes and drinks - popular in Japan as a pitstop between work and home. So we expanded our culinary repertoire and opened Acho's in St. Kevins arcade in October 2016 and quickly built our reputation as just that. We also became a popular late night hangout for people looking for a delicious snack or a cool Japanese whisky at the end of the night.  We stayed here for 4 years and made so many cool new friends and memories with our own little midnight diner.

Fast forward to December 2020 when we moved just down the road from our old shop to 309 K’Rd. We now have our own space - somewhere between a bar and an izakaya - where we can share our favourite music, contribute more to our community with popup events featuring our favourite Auckland chefs, tattooers and makers, bring new items to the menu, and build an extensive range of Japanese drinks including whisky, sake and craft beer to share with our customers. And of course, the Signature Acho’s Bun.

As always, we welcome you to our table be it with your friends for a party, or by yourself for some chill time. We love being a part of the K’Rd community, we’re always here, and we love seeing you!
